Brisbane to Yidney Rocks via Rainbow Beach:
Travelling time from Brisbane to Rainbow Beach is about 2.5 hours. It then takes about another hour or so to travel from Rainbow Beach to your accommodation at Yidney Rocks on K'gari.
Travel from Brisbane to Gympie via the Bruce Highway. Just before you get into Gympie, take a right hand turn off the Bruce Highway onto the Tin Can Bay Road and follow the signs to Rainbow Beach. (You are now travelling along the Cooloola Coast - Tourist drive # 43).
As you drive through Rainbow Beach take a left turn opposite the BP service station and travel about 1km to the roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout and follow the signs to Inskip Point and the vehicular ferry.
Inskip Point is where you will leave the bitumen and commence travelling on sand- please ensure your vehicle is in 4WD.
The Manta Ray Barges transport you from the Inskip Point mainland to K'gari. The barges run every day from dawn to dusk and are run on demand- with little or no waiting times. (No bookings required). Tickets can be purchased on the barge or from their office at Rainbow Beach (07 5486 3935).
The duration of the trip across the bay is only 10 minutes where you will disembark at Hook Point turning right. Follow the beach for approximately 62 km to Yidney Rocks. The entrance to the apartments is via a by-pass ramp at the back of the Yidney Rocks apartments. Yidney Rocks is well signposted.
